The Sydney Sixers are a franchise in Australia's newly announced Twenty20 cricket competition, the Big Bash League.[1]

Along with the Sydney Thunder, the Sixers will be the successors of the New South Wales Blues who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.

The Sixers will represent eastern Sydney and their home ground will be the Sydney Cricket Ground while the Thunder will play out of ANZ Stadium in Sydney's west.

The inaugural coach is Trevor Bayliss[2] and Stuart Clark is the General Manager.[3] The Sixers' inaugural captain is Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin.

While a spokesperson from Cricket NSW admitted that the team's colours may have some connection with the "Pink dollar" and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, pink was chosen for reasons more related to McGrath Foundation, and to create a new and vibrant "really rock star, high-profile cricket team".[4]
